    By Matt Calvitto Mar 18, , The GS F is an indirect rival to the Mercedes-AMG E63 and the newly launched BMW M5 and it shares the same basic recipe as its German rivals — a large luxury sedan fitted with a thumping V8 drivetrain, rear wheel drive, a shouty attitude and a thrill a minute driving dynamics.

    The engine note starts off as a lowly grumble and as the techno needle climbs toward the redline that grumble turns to a properly loud bellow, and then finally to an enraged scream. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic — with steering wheel mounted flappy paddles — that sounds power to the rear wheels. Economy blunts acceleration and softens gearshifts, and a graphical display on the instrument cluster encourages the driver to drive as efficiently as possible.

    Incidentally, we found that Economy mode was actually the best mode for everyday driving. It offered just enough noise and grunt, but at the same time it was comfortable and relatively fuel efficient. The gear shifts are held for longer and are more aggressive.
